What is a Director Identification Number

By the 30th November 2022 ALL Company Directors are required to apply for a Director ID Number.

ASIC is responsible for enforcing director ID offences set out in the Corporations Act 2001. It is a criminal offence if directors do not apply on time and penalties may apply.

Application for a Director ID is a straightforward process.

Firstly you must set up a MyGovID account to apply for your Director ID online. MyGovID is different from your myGov account. The MyGovID is downloaded from your applicable app store onto your mobile phone or iPad/tablet. It cannot be downloaded onto a computer.

To set up your MyGovID account you will need the following documentation:

• Drivers Licence;
• Passport or Birth Certificate; and
• Medicare Card

Once you have set up your MyGovID you can then proceed to apply for Director ID number.
In order to submit your application for Director ID number you will need:

• your tax file number (TFN)
• your residential address as held by the ATO
• information from 2 documents to verify your identity.

Examples of the documents you can use include:

• bank account details – please phone our office to confirm details match
• an ATO notice of assessment – please contact our office to obtain a copy
• super account details
• a dividend statement
• a Centrelink payment summary
• a PAYG payment summary (this is different to your income statement or your PAYG instalment activity statement).

When you have this information you can complete your application by logging into ABRS online (using the below link). You will need to be logged into your MyGovID account to allow full access.
