For Remuneration to influence behaviour there are 5 psychological fundamentals required:

  1. The employee must be able to exert control over the outcome.
  2. The Remuneration must be seen to be valuable.
  3. The Remuneration must be seen as achievable.
  4. The Outcome must be measurable.
  5. Constant & Regular Feedback must be provided so people can adjust their behaviour and performance to reach that outcome.
